Valentine’s Day is upon us and that means one thing, men and women running around last minute trying to find the right gift for their sweethearts, what could be better than a delicious and adorable gift?

Well look no further, a sweet treat is the perfect way to tell someone you love them.

My go-to cut out cookie recipe is easy to make and decorate for any occasion, including Valentine’s Day. This year I made hearts with arrows, X’s and big red lips for my friends and family.

The Everyday Cut Out Cookie Recipe

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup unsalted butter

1 ½ cup granulated sugar

1 egg

2 ¾ cups sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl.

Mix the butter, egg, sugar, and vanilla together in a large bowl.

Combine the two parts into one bowl.

Separate the dough into two disks and chill for at least an hour.

After chilling cover a flat surface with powdered sugar and roll dough out flat.

Use any cookie cutter and bake on a parchment lined cookie sheet for 5-8 minutes depending on size of cookie, bake until bottoms are golden brown.

Decorate with your favorite royal icing recipe.
